Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor is quickly becoming the talk of the town with a huge A-list cast consisting of Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, and Javier Bardem. Angelina Jolie has reportedly been circling a role and now we’re hearing that Penelope Cruz may also be joining the mix.

More after the jump.

The original screenplay comes from Cormac McCarthy, the author who wrote the novel’s No Country for Old Men, The Road, and All the Pretty Horses. Each of those books have been turned into high-profile films, and in the case of No Country for Old Men, Javier Bardem also played the villain.

According to THR The Counselor is being described as “dialogue-heavy, violent, and racy,” and is about a an attorney (Fassbender) who gets caught up in the drug trade with the help of  Reiner (Bardem) and his shady underground acquaintance (Pitt). Shit goes crazy from there. Cruz is in line to play Fassbender’s romantic interest, a role that Natalie Portman was eyeing back in March.

This film seems to be on the fast track and production is set to begin in June, 2012.
