There’s something inherently creepy about Scandinavia: Its arctic weather and ancient forests. Movies like Let the Right One In, Troll Hunter, and Hidden are great examples. Recently, filmmaker Aleksander Nordaas delved into Norwegian folklore as inspiration for his latest effort, Thale, staring Silje Reinåmo, Erlend Nervold, and Jon Sigve Skard.
The full NSFW trailer for Thale is more than just creepy. The story of a mythical creature that looks like a beautiful woman with a cow’s tail is utterly disturbing (yes, pun intended).
See for yourself after the jump…
While there is no official synopsis as of yet, Thale revolves around the legend of the “huldra”. According to Wikipedia: “In some traditions the huldra lures men into the forest to have sexual intercourse with her, rewarding those who satisfy her and often killing those who do not. The Norwegian huldra is a lot less bloodthirsty and may simply kidnap a man or lure him into the underworld. She sometimes steals human infants and replaces them with her own ugly huldrebarn (changeling huldre children). In some cases the intercourse resulted in a child, being presented to the unknowing father. In some cases she forces him to marry her.”
Yikes! Just imagine if failing to give your woman the “Big O” was punishable by death. Talk about performance anxiety! Clearly some themes relating to man’s innate fear of female sexuality are at work here.
Still, I’ve got to admit: That’s one sexy-hot huldra—and I even kind of like the tail!
No news on a US distributor or a release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
